Dean C. Jones
DGA Producer - Director - Writer
Dean C. Jones graduated from UNC Greensboro with a BFA in acting and directing and began his filmmaking career in the film and television profession over thirty years ago. Jones was first discovered and hired by acclaimed film director David Lynch to create the makeup effects for the cult classic Blue Velvet. Jones has since been a part of over a hundred feature films and television projects.
Dean’s inspiration comes from his own artistic and entrepreneurial vision and from the many award-winning directors he has worked with over the years such as Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), Sam Mendes (Jarhead), and Steven Spielberg (Lincoln). Jones has won two Emmy awards and six nominations while working on Star Trek – Deep Space Nine.
Jones was an LAPD police officer, Pacific Division, and a Vice Squad officer, Newton Division, from 1991 to 1993. Staying true to his roots in Alamance County, NC, Dean has produced and directed the annual haunted attraction The Hollywood Horror Show since 1989, which remains one of the largest haunted attractions in the United States.
Dean's first feature thriller, Dark Awakening, premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Market and Stitgis Festival in Barcelona, Spain in 2016. In 2022-23, Dean completed filming on the science fiction pilot title The Black Archives and the inspirational feature film titled Another Life starring Kevin Sorbo.
Dean is currently a member of the Alamance County Rescue Dive Team. He maintains his three favorite sports as a Sabre Fencer at the Burbank Fencing Club, Open Water Scuba diver, and first-degree Black Belt in Taekwondo for the Lee Brothers Martial Arts program, Burlington, NC.
Jones attributes his growing success from his earlier years as an Eagle Scout to which he is still an active adult scout leader today.
Starr Jones
DGA Producer – Unit Production Manager
Starr Jones has a 30+ year career in the film industry that began as a young boy when his dad purchased him a Dick Smith gorilla makeup kit from Walt Disney World. From there he became enthralled with makeup and its ability to allow him to create characters.
As a teenager he honed his skills by making up friends for Halloween and as a Boy Scout creating realistic wounds for his fellow scouts to practice their first aid skills. He obtained Scouting's highest rank, that of Eagle Scout. He wrote and produced some of his original plays in high school at Southern Alamance.
Upon attending UNC -G's theatre program and earning a BFA in acting and directing he combined his love and skill with makeup to bring to life all manner of character roles for various productions. While still a student at UNC-G he landed his first job on a low-budget film that was shot in Shelby, NC.
After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to join his brother Dean. From there they began to work constantly on numerous film and television projects having worked on over 90 movies and more than 200 hundred television episodes including Day of the Dead, Mortuary, Toolbox Murders, Star Trek, The Abyss, and Lincoln, to name a few. Starr's love of creating characters led him to enroll and perform at the famed improv company Second City in Los Angeles. He formed his own improv troop and performed at numerous venues in LA and NC.
Starr, along with Dean, founded one of the country's premiere haunted attractions in their home county of Alamance in North Carolina known as The Hollywood Horror Show. Having developed art direction skills through his exposure to the film industry he has fabricated all manner of sets for many of the projects in which he has been involved. In the last few years, his knowledge of film production has led him into a producing role. Along with Dean, he has formed an NC-based production company whose mandate is to produce quality film productions in NC.
